revised Character turn mechanic that is both detailed and handles long actions

comment How do you plan a character's actions when the player is absent?
Same here. My players(the ones that came) frown upon the "absent from combat" thing, but I thing that they do not realize the alternative: you come next session to play, the GM: "sorry bro, your character died while you were not here"

What's up with the tags?? I remember the tag "system-design" existing here. I definitely do!

comment How do I not cheapen death, while also respecting my players' time?
I think players find it a little shocking their character to die, so they need some time to emotionally overcome the loss. And in the meantime, why not play a session or two with a major NPC. Firstly, the NPC is in the most part already constructed, leaving only the flavour to be constructed by the player. And secondly, NPC deaths are much cheaper. So the player can play recklessly if they desire so, in the process gaining ideas for the new character. Why does this remind me of romantic relationships - oh, never mind :D

comment How do you deal with a drunk player who refuses to participate?
This sounds to me like "I don't like the GM's decision, so I'll cry/wine/protest and the decision will change. MUHAHAHA!".

revised Finding online RPG players for a play-by-chat RPG Campaign?
IMHO "online players" is a litttle bit confusing, as the comments indicate

comment As a GM, what aids could I use to create adventure scenes on the spot?
@Sardathrion, tarrot are outstanding! As someone on this site said, it is far easier to make something from something, than something from nothing.

2) is not really unrealistic. There are loads of people, that survived after head show/shrapnel to the head (maybe call it a brain shot, huh). Also, if gun damage is substantional, doubling it should pretty much kill instantly.

comment Where is the “One-sentence NPCs” collection?
SevenSided hit the nail on the head (y u no accept your answer?). This list has been providing me with ideas on-the-spot! ever since I found it (last Wednesday). I wander what similar lists could be constructed...

comment Techniques for skimming through travel (fast travel) without meta-teleportation
btw, I use another similar technique in yet another type of situation. When there are going to be missing players form a session, I ask them to tell me what are their characters going to do during the session. Generally the direction of the game is known and stating several actions for the future in-game week-or-so is not difficult.

I have had success with the following. I am the GM, the group is split. I alternate spotlight between the two halfs-groups at 10-15 min slices. During that time, the other group is encouraged to converse in character - on the problem at hand, on their characters, on local beverages and past heroic achievements. When I turn to them, I ask if something important happen and if there are conflicts with the rality as I see it, make adjustments.

One variety of this is to let the characters converse. They have backstories to expand.
