When should I separate encounters? Between the two encounters, were the characters in range of shooting weapons and spells of the adversaries? |

As a GM, what minimal geographic knowledge should I have to make realistic maps? Awesome, thanks! This addresses perfectly the readable and correctly marked maps. However, where do I learn from how did terrain features form so that I do not put incompatible features one next to the other. Or on a sufficiently old planet, there are no impossible combinations? |

As a GM, what minimal geographic knowledge should I have to make realistic maps? @Steed, great idea. Problems: (1)too many roads; (2)real-world names. |

As a GM, what minimal geographic knowledge should I have to make realistic maps? The example of the rivers is quite basic one. Yesterday I had a rectangular stony cliff, next to a lake in the fields (like those around canyons). Canyons are formed out of moving ice blocks. "Is this cliff possible?" is a question I would be able to answer, after reading the hypothetical "basic geography materials". Common sense is based on knowledge - where do I get the basics of it? |

As a GM, what minimal geographic knowledge should I have to make realistic maps? I would appreciate some help rewording my pre-last paragraph. I feel there is something wrong with it, but just can't get it right. Also, should this be two separate questions? |

Effective use of many close combat characters? Reading through your short answer almost forms a whole adventure scenario in my head. Or at least an interesting encounter. +1 |

Beyond hit points: injury in D&D +1 for proposing that injuries are healed in months, not weeks. Everyone, who has had a broken broken condition should know that. |

How does d20 Modern handle having someone at gunpoint? +1 I would model the situation just like this. @cr0m, I guess if there is a gunfight outside the window, the guy in the room would not hear the killer in the door. On the other hand, if the victim hears the "killer", he would draw and aim at the door - then both of them are at gunpoint. Perfect. |

Is it fair to press the players for decisions during combat? Hmm, I see the logic, but there is a slight contradiction. Namely, the pace becomes inverted - Bob feels like the slow guy now. |

How do I get my players to form a PC party without just forcing them to? @mxyzplk, neither. I am not looking for ways for the characters to start together. I am experimenting with ways to collect together in a party characters that started separate and different. |

As a GM, how do I encourage PCs to share and play out their backstories? You are correct on ALL points. My players copy their personal relationships to their heroes. Also, I have such a list (that you propose) and value it very much (if you wish, I could post it). However, the problem is that the list is too formidable for novice players. This is why I am accepting The_Mormegil's answer and upvoting yours (unfortunately I can add only +1) |

As a GM, how do I encourage PCs to share and play out their backstories? @Sardathrion, I didn't see it at first. But now, with so varied and wonderful answers, I can see the question is great. btw you are a visionary! |

How do I get my players to form a PC party without just forcing them to? Interesting thing is, I tried to confine them to the same space, but one of them escaped! I think I'll go with the "It has been foretold" excuse for awkward things happening all the time. Or maybe the "you are all poisoned, find the antidote". |

How do I get my players to form a PC party without just forcing them to? An important question is "Is it possible to force in-game a group to form of strangers, or is it necessary to force common things among PC-s at character creation?". |

How do I get my players to form a PC party without just forcing them to? Maybe that's basically the only solution - require PC to be somehow connected from character creation. I'll experiment and maybe post results. |
