comment Pitfalls of using the optional 'XP for Gold' rule in a Basic D&D Retro Clone game?
Instead of GP => XP conversion, you can also require training to level, with a master of sorts, at 1000GP per level per week, with the number of weeks being the number of levels. (Work it out based on the gold sink you require). This also lets you introduce the requirement of an appropriate master, hooks, etc. The other element is you can be nastier and halt XP accumulation after someone is eligible to level. So instead of the XP max being +2 levels -1 XP, it would be 1 level only.

comment Is there a plainer english explanation of bravery and poltroonery?
This helps incredibly! I was unable to parse the rules as written, whereas this makes sense!

From a verisimilitude perspective: early modern STDs resulted in general infertility amongst women who habitually sold sex, particularly amongst women confined in places where sex was sold. (We'd think of them as prostitutes and brothels, but I'm less sure about the anachronism of that comparison over time). @SevenSidedDie &Melon in en-garde paternity is declared for mistresses based on primary lover regardless of coitus. &Oblivious Sage historically STD infertility was "birth control"
