With your help, and some research on my end it really does seem like this system will work best for what I plan to do. If it doesn't satisfy exactly what I want to do it comes pretty darn close. Judging from some of the custom material I feel confident that I could rework anything that doesn't do what I want. Thank you.

In the generation of the setting, do the rules allow for the MC to establish boundaries and limitations on what the players may contribute? If I have a specific idea in mind how could that work out? Granted, I intend to be running a sandbox style game, so the "no planning" part is appealing. I just want to make sure that my setting back story will not be overthrown by the players before the game truly gets started.

I have seen some good recommendations, but I feel that I may need to clarify a stronger criteria. Everything that has been suggested up to this point has essentially been 'This would work if you can get over xxx..." and I would rather that not be the case. Look forward to an update on my end soon.

comment Playing D&D 4e with two players
@Dakeyras - That is exactly what I did to teach my younger brother. He played a sword and shield fighter and I played a fully fledged NPC bard for support. I made sure there were plenty of minions for him to plow through while I made sure he stayed alive, shifted enemies around, and gave him MBAs. Had a lot of fun

I play with a very heavy RP group. Due to us spending more time describing details the story progresses at a molasses pace (but that's what we like). It was revealed by the DM a few months ago that where we are now is where he was anticipating us being over a year ago. Our last encounter was the first with an actual combat in five or six sessions.

comment Are there any free resources for Bards that focus on stories to be told?
Aaron's World of Stories is great!
