New to the game: Where can I get D&D 4E tips and advice? Not sure I see why this is still off topic: the information in an answer is unlikely to change, it is general but still difficult to find online where many sites just simply say "Use a creator", and there is plenty of room to touch on more peripheral aspects of character creation, with their own questions and answers, linking within the answer. What about that sounds bad, exactly? |

When do 4e Monster powers (with the recharge ability) recharge? One important thing to note is that, like everything else, it is up to the DM's discretion to follow the rules or not. It is perfectly acceptable to consider the roll numbers a rarity number and just use the powers accordingly in the way that best suits the drama of the battle. |

Can you start your turn when you're dead? @SimonWithers I had trouble understanding what this question was about and the comment above was intended to help people like me 'click' onto what this is all about. Consider it a clue. |

Creating solo monsters Example: In my last game I had my players fight a giant hermit crab. I included a few minion piles of crabs for flavor, and made it so overwhelmingly strong that running was the only really viable option, save for tactics. This fight took place on the edge of a cliff with a tiny dangerous path, inviting the solution of using the path to get out of range, and hitting it with ranged until death. (which would be boring, so once they all got in position, the crab fell over the cliff, the battle was solved) |

Creating solo monsters The absolute best advice in that whole chunk of text was the line: "or even simply ignoring HP, and allowing the monster to die only after at least 2-3 turns of being pounded on" but remember. NEVER LET THE PLAYERS KNOW YOU DID THIS! Be careful with bloodied, make sure you give it to them at the 50% mark. If they smell the rat, you'll never be able to use a solo again without stating the HP upfront. |

Creature death and save conditions Let's look at the reverse condition to find the answer: The text, if it applies to dead creatures that never made their save, would extend forever. There is no range listed and no time limit. Notice: You don't have to STAY within 10 squares of the creature to keep the bonus, just be within 10 to cast. So if death doesn't end the bonus, then you'd keep the bonus... Forever. |

Can you start your turn when you're dead? Once you hit negative your bloodied value, you are dead. Not dying. You can't do anything while dead, and that includes this power. |

Inventiveness vs. breaking the game; How do I encourage one, without enabling the other? Roll for each vial separately. Or if there really are 200, roll a D20 then apply the next success roll to that many of the bottles, rinse and repeat. This guy is swinging a mace of TPK. |

Wraiths across multiple games To offer a counter to this, I come from a D&D background for pen and paper, but come even earlier from a Video Game/Fantasy Book background and I don't associate wraiths as soul/life stealing at all. I associate them more with what D&D peeps would call a Lich, or a lesser Lich. This idea comes from earlier Elder Scrolls, Ultima, and Final Fantasy games, and the father of all this stuff the Ring Wraiths from Lord of the Rings. |

What should I consider when creating a time travel adventure? Warning: Do NOT split the party and allow some to travel and others not to. Reasons should be self-evident. |
