comment Can I build an effective druid in D&D4 without high WIS?
Logos7 - Sorry about the confusion. By multiclass chain, I was referring to the chain of three power substitution feats, not the spiked chain feat.

The OP wants something that is impossible, that is an effective druid with a low wis. I was attempting to capture as much druid flavor as possible while yielding to the OP wishes of "keep the primal magic, use of weapons, and some of the nicer druid powers". Well in order for those "nicer druid powers" to be effective, he had to have a stat substitution. The only stat sub in 4th ed that I know if is Combat Virtuoso. In order to fit with his original wish of being melee, I MC'd with barbarian which has similar flavor. I think is a reasonable option for a near impossible request.

comment Fair replacement rule for D&D 4e item creation?
They went in to more detail at gencon but I can't recall which of the 3 hour long sessions of podcast that information is hiding in. In essence, by taking away the ability for players to buy all but the most basic of magic items, treasure becomes much for exciting again. If they can't buy cool items anymore then the only way to get those items are through adventuring for them or for the "parts" to make them. Seems like a very positive change, and one I'm looking forward to reading more about.

You can still pick up issue 84 of dungeon for like $5. Check out this map to see if it looks familiar. s193.photobucket.com/albums/z17/tmpiper/…

What aspect of druid are you trying to duplicate? Being able to shift into an animal is almost purely a flavor in 4th. Maybe you could play a monk multiclassed in druid and see if your DM would allow you to use your monk powers while in beast form. Since it doesn't give any bonus, it shouldn't be a balance issue and monk powers can easily be reflavored to appear more druidlike.

comment What makes a creature Aberrant?
Maybe you could come up with a sliding scale or point based system. +2 for tentacles +3 for being asymmetrical +1 for being Psionic +1 for more than 2 eyes, 1 mouth, etc Mostly, it just means "ripped off from Lovecraft" as mentioned above.

comment What are some alternatives to using miniatures for games that require them?
Awesome. At first I thought he was using PhotoShop and I thought "great, so I only have to own a $500 program to make cheap tokens" but then I saw that it was a free program. Great find!

comment What is the most effective healing class in D&D 4e?
Between the wis to heals, pacifist feat and the healing domain's interaction with astral seal, cleric wins on all levels at least as far as pure healing goes. It's not just that clerics have the best mechanics, its that there is so much content for clerics that they have more feats, powers and PP then any of the other leaders (except maybe warlord). In D&D, more options almost always equates to more power.

comment Beyond hit points: injury in D&D
Yep, the hard part is keeping the flavor consistent. It's easy enough to say the ogre's heavy attacks are tiring a character out. It's harder to make that work with an acid attack or even a crossbow bolt. Plus, it's hard as a DM to narrate the first half of the battle as mostly bloodless.

comment Do battlerager fighters gain extra temporary hit points from hitting with invigorating powers?
Wait, so are you asking if a fighter, not trained in endurance would get the temp hp from the battlerager power? If so I'd say yes... you wouldn't get the invigorating temp hp of course but the power is still has the keyword even if you don't qualify for the bonus.

comment What's the maximum number of minions for an encounter?
Some solid reasoning Bryant. I'd only add in to keep in mind minion interaction. Some minions gain bonuses based on how many others are round. This can snowball very quickly if you aren't careful. The flipside is true if you send the minions in waves. Waves of minions are often worth half of what groups are worth.

comment Advantage to normal multiclassing in D&D4?
My thoughts exactly. I'd love to multiclassing handled more like themes are handled in Dark Sun. The power swap feats are dreadful and almost unusable, and Hybrid characters only work with with some classes. For example, a wizard/psion would work fine as no one minds giving up staff mastery, but a rogue/monk would be just horrible despite obvious synergy. Themes, on the other hand, provide a lot of flexibility in design without requiring 4 feats and MAD.

comment How do I get players to use their Interrupts?
Exactly what I was going to say. Cards, reminder tokens, post it's, etc, are all great, but if you narrate the scene like the events have already happened, then it's easy for new and young players to forget about things like interrupts. This is a good habit to get into regardless. I find that my players stay on their toes and engaged better if I'm asking them if they are hit rather than Assuming AC, A hit and moving directly to damage.
