You may need to create an account on stackexhange.com in order to successfully chat. It was what I needed to do before I could actually chat.

Also, and this is not meant to be insulting, but is English your first language, or are you perhaps reading books which have been translated into a foreign language?

Are you talking about the DC (Difficulty class) for overcoming an obstacle or passing a skill check of some sort?

comment How would society adjust if use of fire is reserved for the elite?
In this case, the general public sees it as religious significance to show reverence to fire. It is important and vital, so the God of Fire does not want it to be used by those who lack the ability to properly use it. In reality, there is an evil god who has incapacitated the actual God of Fire and is corrupting the priesthood of the God of Fire with a final goal of destroying the God of Fire.

comment How can I represent the use of fire being misrepresented in a campaign?
I have tagged it as such as I will be running this using one of those rule sets. I don't know enough about DMing to know if it being system agnostic or 4E/Next specific would make a difference.

Fire magic would be severely restricted, only the elite. For the rest, a forge, baker, etc, while it wouldn't be just the elite, but those that use it would be either very trusted, almost sycophantic to the priesthood, or they would be very fearful. This is the part I am having trouble with. How to make the daily restriction on fire seem not heavy-handed. Perhaps a central mess hall type thing for cities and towns.

I have split this into two more questions: How can I represent the use of fire being misrepresented in a campaign? and How to make rituals a part of everyday life.
