Question titles need to describe the question, not be completely random.

comment Repercussions to DM-mandated limit on books allowable for characters?
In general, the current consensus on char-op is that with equal optimization, playing Core-only is highly unbalancing. Core provides many powerful options for full casters, but it provides very little for any other character. The most powerful/abusable spells in the game are still Gate, Contingency, Time Stop, Planar Binding, Shapechange, Polymorph series, and so forth. They're all Core. In contrast, most fighter-types only get Power Attack from core. The rest is junk.

comment If a character does something evil, but they can justify it as good are they evil?
In-world, one might actually debate whether Evil acts (that is, Evil-aligned acts) are actually bad. But even if people decided that Evil acts aren't always bad, that wouldn't change that those acts are Evil.

Humans have been the alpha predators of Earth since around 40 thousand years ago. Even during those days, they caused many great extinctions and environmental disasters. Humans obviously adapt to environments and situations. They have lived, throughout the ages, in pretty much any possible set of conditions. From frozen tundra, to deserts, to arid badlands, or fertile plains. The bit about storytelling is questionable. The cited article is in no way a proven fact.

comment What are some good sources for combat tactics for a GM to use?
On a more serious note, remember that the purpose of the game is not to roll dice fairly. The purpose of the game is to have fun, and to tell a good story. The dice don't decide what's a good story. That's your job. They may well result in something that's completely not a good story. Now, because the game does have rules, obviously fudging all your rolls is a bad idea. And if a GM actually likes it, I'd run like hell. All the suggestions above are to be taken in moderation, when appropriate. Oh, I think this is obvious, but if anyone finds out you fudged dice rolls, you lose.

I should hope no one uses all of them. A large, complicated assortment of powerful enemies encountered in a pitch black lava lake with deadly traps and poisonous gas... is an experience for which the word 'play' is inappropriate. 'Suffer' might be better. Or possible, 'incredulity'.
