What alternatives are there for replacing the D&D memorize and forget magic rules @BBlake Take a caster with 4/4/4/3/2/1 spells per day (Lvs 0/1/2/3/4/5)... he now has 4+8+16+18+16+10=72 spell points. He can cast 7 5th level spells, or 9 4th levels, or 72 0th level... that flexibility is REALLY empowering. |

What alternatives are there for replacing the D&D memorize and forget magic rules I've used it since about 1985, so it's a coincidence... ub good ideas keep coming up in near identical forms again and again. |

Is there a canonical definition for when Hermetic seasons start in Ars Magica? 4th ed does, as well, define it, but inobviously. page 104, under durations. "Season: The spell lasts until the next solstice or equinox after its casting." Under Aegis of the Hearth, it notes that it's cast at the winter solstice; in one of the 3E books, it's noted that Aegis is cast at the winter solstice and elsewhere noted that it's the start of the lab year. |

Are PDF Based RPG Sales Hurting the Industry? My first encounter with piracy was someone having put a retyped version of Moldvay D&D up on WWIVnet in the early 1990's... Piracy has been out there since before the internet went public. Before that, it was photocopies of out of print books. |

Are PDF Based RPG Sales Hurting the Industry? -1 for factual errors - "nobody is talking about what PDF is doing to them." - Pathfinder has discussed it, SJG has discussed it, and Palladium has discussed it. In all three cases, it's changed their business model to include PDF as a primary consideration, rather than an after-the-fact. Hell, FFG has mentioned it, as well, in that they consider PDF to be a primary sales route, when the license arises, and have moved a major game line over to POD & PDF only (WFRP3). |

Adventures with an allegorical/philosophical flavour Note that Fading Suns and Tribe 8 are essentially Fantasy games. Tribe 8 is fantasy in the mold of Vance; the only reason you can mistake it for sci-fi is that it's officially set in the future. Fading Suns is a very similar "Dark Ages + Tech" feel to Warhammer. Exccellent games, but not ones' that came to mind for me with Allegory, tho' both are in my collection. |

Why can't clerics use sharp weapons? @KRyan the prohibition originates in the Ecumenical Councils. It is, however, pretty much irrelevant to answering the original question, except by way of Once and Future King, and of Song of Roland, as many of the Fighting Cleric romantic era figures ignored it. Friar Tuck uses a staff because he's poor and not exceeding his station, not because he cares much for the prohibitions of a 600-year old council. |
