Expand the numeric scale of Strands of Fate Good read, but I would like to add that I would say that equivalent range to 0 in 4dF would be -0.5 -> 0.5 in 4dG in my opinion, that's about 25% vs 28% I think. |

Systems that have rules for covert magic (Occult type magic) +1 for mentioning a game I never heard about. |

Expand the numeric scale of Strands of Fate Yeah, I'm pretty convinced Fate is the way to go amongst those indie narrativist games and I guess expanding isn't necessary. I love to rattle my head around these things though, just for fun. If coming from a more traditional games, is there another game besides Fate that I should look at, narratavist but still has traditional elements like GM, Attributes, Skills and such? |

Expand the numeric scale of Strands of Fate They are all my real life friends and I know them well enough to know where the limits lie. I'm gonna look into the transition thing though. |

Mechanical ways to handle dark power temptation @AlexP I don't know much about BW, but I've read the interesting one shot adventures like The Gift which especially mentions Greed and Grief. I was always intrigued by how the system would handle these as they sounded to be both advantageous but also disadvantageous at the same time. |

Dystopian sword & magic settings I do believe that there was a D&D 3rd setting called Midnight that revolved around the typical Tolkien setting where the bad guys have won. |

Systems that have rules for covert magic (Occult type magic) Yeah Vulgar magic, remember that. Had the best of both as you could do either but had to face the consequences if obvious. You could still throw fireballs, but it was semi-freeform so you could actually do anything. |

Expand the numeric scale of Strands of Fate It's not a problem yet, and it's more like 1 or 2 potential problem players that are afraid of anything new and different, especially if it doesn't allow them to do cool things. Fate allows you to do more cool things then games like D&D, it's just not as obvious. I know they could love Fate, I just have to be able to get them there because I won't stand another humongous prep time in D&D to do basically the same stuff we would do in Fate minus the cool aspects. The must fun time we have are when we roleplay, the like to be able to show of the cool feature once and then they are good to go. |

How to design game elements other than combat? This is the version I have always used but I actually want to change. If you just roleplay through debating, why don't you just roleplay through combat as well, skip the stats. This method can and does work but if it's used you shouldn't have social skills or attributes. Suddenly the guy who invests in CHA and Diplomacy can't do anyhting better then the fighter. Especially if he himself lacks the social aspects. I would rather mix the real roleplay with a a ruleset for this conflict. Same as in combat where both rolls and narration should matter. |

How to have a realistic set of languages without making adventuring prohibitively difficult? I think the questions we should rather be asking is "Can realistic set of languages be made fun" |

Expand the numeric scale of Strands of Fate I actually said, double the dice spread, not the die themselves: anydice.com/program/152d my solutions all have a lesser central tendency actually, but there might be a problem here I'm not seeing. |

How would society adjust if use of fire is reserved for the elite? Being from Iceland I must mention that places with active geothermal hotspots would be more populated and likelier to thrive. What they could do with the energy depends on tech level but even low tech could build houses on or near places that have either a hot spring or almost boiling groundwater. This warms up the ground but doesn't always seep up. These places would though also be unstable and have earthquakes and nearby volcanos. |

Expand the numeric scale of Strands of Fate I was talking about doubling the Dice spread as well so a result of 8 would work to the same effect as a result of 4 before. One other thing I had in mind was to run a campaign where the player are rather high powered and thus would have higher abilities overall. Just to ease them into it. |
