comment Can a player with “Harmonious Academic Methodology” train himself without spending XP?
@BrianS - I suspected as much, but I didn't want to say so without checking my book (and 2.5), and I never got around to it. That's good to know.

Ignoring the rules-as-written tag for a second,we house ruled this that PCs (and NPCs we tracked experience with) that benefited from training charms could go into experience debt, and that half of the XP that they gained moving forward would go to pay off whatever they gained through training charms. One couldn't be the target of a training charm if one was currently carrying experience debt. It worked very well.

comment Game with Interesting Combat that is Crunch Heavy and is built to not Require a Grid?
@Aesin That's one of my favorite things about the game. It's like the game design decision was explicitly made: let's take every guilty pleasure players have in games, and give them justification to do them.

@Jeff RE: the fact that you can't easily display that on a grid, well, that's kinda the problem. In 2nd Ed movement is complicated enough that it has to be tracked (or just ignored, which is a valid option, given play style), and because the settings you want for an ideal exalted fight are epic, it gets hard.

I'd also suggest that 2nd works really only with a grid. I personally love the tick system and will miss it in 3rd, but tracking movement is super important.

Second Edition combat mechanics are like tic-tac-toe. They're awesomely fun only until you figure out how to play the game. Then they become slow, grueling attrition between characters with supernatural flurries that will kill any army in Creation in one go and characters using perfect defenses. First one out of essence loses.

comment Does White Wolf still own BESM and is anyone licensing it from them?
I'm accepting this due to community ascent and reasonability. If anyone actually contacts CCP regarding BESM and gets an official response, I'll move the acceptance.

comment Looking for a game system that involves advanced math
Are you ultimately really looking for a game that utilizes a continuous rather than discrete model for simulating the world? Your examples all seem to be continuous maths and not discrete ones.

comment How deadly are extras in Exalted 2nd ed.?
Eh. Unless you're using Elemental Burst attack or similar charm, you're probably not talking out more than one extra in an action since you can't normally attack more than one target at a time.

comment Could Virtues and Vices break my WoD game?
All of these points are good, but especially the last one. I'm not sure if this is the core or if it's just something that came about in gaming circle, but when players are making characters, we always talk about Virtue and Vice as "what my character is like at her best/what my character is like at her worst." These are meant to be tools for rewarding in character action, rather than effective playing. And in a WoD campaign, you'd be surprised how HARD it can be to satisfy virtues, sometimes.

Oh, and at character creation, as a DB, make sure that you have at least one excellency to increase your attack rolls and one to increase your DV, unless your concept is supposed to be NOTABLY lacking in combat ability. Your blood is the blood of the Army of Creation! Your forefathers threw down the anathema! Embrace your legacy!

comment Is there an endless RPG system?
It should be added that 4e brought back an ultimate level cap, along with the built in notion that characters become something /else/ with their epic destiny, because of the realization that no system can support games going on for 20 years without making the first two or three boring and dangerous. +1 for pointing out the problems with games that go on and on.
