I'm an electrical engineering student with a computer science minor at the City College of New York. I do programming work for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, and do a fair amount of hobby-coding for web sites and computer game modifications.

@SevenSidedDie You “guessed” that the OP doesn’t know how to use the freaking Accept Answer button, that the accepted answer wasn’t exactly what the OP wanted despite the fact that he indicated that it was, you guessed that more clarification was required to a question which had already accepted an answer. And aside from all that, what conflict of interest do you imagine I have? I’d already answered the question, to the satisfaction of the OP, and provided a meaningful and useful piece of information for future readers. What more could I want here?

@SevenSidedDie You just redefined all communication ever as guessing. Congratulations. Your definitions do not match everyone else’s, it would seem, since most people feel that they can communicate effectively without only being able to “guess” what others mean.

@SevenSidedDie What part of I do not consider my position to be a guess do you fail to understand? I have said you, continuously, that I think you are wrong to say that there is any ambiugity. I feel that there is no need for further clarification.

@SevenSidedDie The part where I think you and everyone who considered the original question unclear are wrong and that this question, after edits, is the same question.

@SevenSidedDie Or the 4 reopen votes and accepted answer indicates that it wasn't unilateral and there existed just 5 persons who were confused.

@SevenSidedDie Again, I did not feel that I was guessing, and still don't. I think the question is clear, and I think that even if the OP has some other problem he'd also like help with, this question is valid, useful, and answerable. A follow-up question would be quite appropriate. Just because you suspect an XY problem doesn't mean you have to close and not answer an otherwise-answerable question. You can solve X even though you think there might be a Y.

@SevenSidedDie Sure, and I strongly disagreed with the initial closure to begin with because I never considered the question unclear and still think my answer is more-or-less the only correct answer, which makes the question quite unambiguous. I removed the line only because it appeared to be tripping up others.

@Zachiel I really think it would be quite difficult to convince any significant population that any sources of ability score increases beyond those I have listed are typical.

@SevenSidedDie The fact that the OP accepted the answer to the as-it-currently-stands question seems to indicate the edit was accurate.

@Zachiel Doesn't come into play in a typical situation.

comment How should a DM handle Vorpal + Surge of Fortune?
It's magic. I don't think it's a good idea to put mundane characters through any more realism taxes than the game already does; they're already shafted left, right, and sideways.

@HeyICanChan But if you get your turn and didn't need to use wings of cover last turn, you can safely use your swift. Immediate actions out of turn take from next turn.

@HeyICanChan Fair; ultimately, I'd have more concern in that regard if there were more immediate actions to worry about obsolescing....

@HeyICanChan Wings of cover definitely is problematic, but I think it works reasonably well here. Otherwise, any solo is just going to be overwhelmed by the sheer action-advantage. Even as it is, you only have one immediate per round...

comment What can PCs buy out of game?
@Epeedefeu And a large part of my answer is "that's fine, but ultimately you do need to get your items more-or-less 'on time,' so the DM needs to figure out how that's going to happen with this in-character reality even if the party has to constantly keep moving."

comment What is the chronological list of D&D 3(.5)e material?
Regardless of whether or not a list is on-topic or not, this question is answered, effectively, by @HeyICanChan's list in the 3.0 vs. 3.5 question. Someone who actually wants to produce a more-comprehensive list can and should do it there.

@Epeedefeu For adding character a world, that’s fine, but it does basically nothing about abuse because there are almost no abuses possible with magic items within the limitations of wealth by level. The exceptions are notorious, and few and far between (candle of invocation, dust of sneezing and choking, and custom magic traps are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head).

revised What is the typical range of high ability scores in D&D 3.5?
removing the only ambiguous line in favor of a nice, neat, already-answered question.
