I'm an electrical engineering student with a computer science minor at the City College of New York. I do programming work for the Metropolitan Transit Authority, and do a fair amount of hobby-coding for web sites and computer game modifications.

comment Action in Combat , Can I make a full attack with touch attacks for a trigger spell?
@Ruut Because that's what "trigger" means in 3.5, but on rereading I doubt that was what he meant

The counterexample disproving your answer has been found, so you should probably modify or delete this answer.

comment How can I tell if Shillelagh has been cast on a quarterstaff?
@KornMuffin No, shillelagh is a transmutation spell, so the effect would be whatever changes it applies to the staff. I would assume those changes would be visible, and you could use the check to see them for what they are.

While the question arguably does ask all of these questions, I’d argue they probably shouldn’t be all in one question and that therefore answers should stick to the primary question as much as possible. That’s debatable. But the statements you make about shivering touch, those I do strongly disagree with: you can’t say what the duration means, because it’s inherently nonsensical in that situation. Guesses like yours don’t actually make sense, and all contradict how the rules actually work in various ways.

comment How to make D&D-like Alignment work
@Lexible Also a good solution, works particularly well for, e.g., Eberron, which has a strong focus on the dangers of alien invasion (daelkyr, quori, fiends to a certain extent).

@BraddSzonye Didn't they originally use only the Law-Chaos axis, too?

Summary, as I remember it: your step two is inaccurate, because while No con score ∨ Con < 1 is the logical negation of Have Con score ∧ Con ≥ 1, you cannot carry that back to ¬Living ⇒ No con score ∨ Con < 1. That would be the inverse, which is not logically equivalent. The contrapositive is, therefore you could say No con score ∨ Con < 1 ⇒ ¬Living, but I don’t think that helps you.

comment Are humans living creatures? By the rules, that is?
@BrianBallsun-Stanton No, there really haven’t. All of them were specifically geared towards improving the answer, not just arguing. Step away from the trigger, you erased important material, again. Does the moderation team really spend no time on other SE sites? Having a lot of comments on a difficult and contentious answer is not unusual, and not a problem until it’s actually a problem. The comments here were, by and large, not only not problems, but actually important. And you deleted them so quickly I doubt Jeor even had time to see them and decide not to incorporate them.

@Mourdos That’s correct but I’m not really sure of the relevance. But anyway, yes, Con – and Con 0 are very different things, under the rules.

comment How to make D&D-like Alignment work
@Ciacciu They were kept for niche use against outsiders, but I don't recall anyone actually buying one, so it didn't really come up. I'd be comfortable with holy being like, +1d6 damage in general (like flaming), but +1d6 more damage for creatures with the Evil subtype or with DR/good (and of course counts as good-aligned for that DR). The +1d6 damage against all creatures makes up for the fact that the full +2d6 is applying to far fewer creatures than it ordinarily would.

@LouisHuppenbauer Unfortunately, in this case the opposite of living is unliving, not necessarily dead, so that does not follow. Being dead or not is a question of whether or not you are under the Dead condition, not an aspect of your type. Constructs and undead are not living, but are also not dead.

Energy drain has a really specific definition in game terms (that which gives negative levels), and vampiric touch clearly doesn't enter into that. Stuff like enervation or, heh, energy drain are energy drain effects.

@MatthieuM. My entire point is that the definitions of Law (and the other alignments) are not consistent from book to book. Some books agree with you. Others don't. No one can say definitively which it "actually" is.

Ooooh. That’s Monster Manual III pg. 215. Gets into some weird-ish primary source issues, but I’m reasonably confident this can be said to “not contradict” Monster Manual.
