I've been involved in one aspect or another of the adventure games hobby for the past twenty-five years. Started playing in 1987. (First game? Champions, followed by CyberSpace, the Iron Crown cyberpunk game for Space Master, their sci-fi Rolemaster spin-off.) Was hired by InQuest Magazine in 1996, where I started my editorial career. Since then, I've done work for Green Ronin, Malhavoc Press, Dream Pod 9, and White Wolf. I managed two different game stores in the metro Boston area in the 2000s, and am now working primarily freelance. Still gaming after all these years.

I have a weakness for good coffee and bad puns.

comment Building a good comedy adventure?
Welcome to the site. I'm curious: since the OP is probably not going to run a KoL tabletop game, how would having access to these things add more comedy to his adventure? From what you've quoted, it seems like they're mainly funny in the context of this overall surreal game, and that's hard to bring over. Can you say more about how you'd use those things in a game you were playing or running and keep them funny?

comment How to manage character arguments / conflict?
This is one of those times where the goals of the characters and the goals of the players are at odds. It's perfectly reasonable that the character is going to want a greater share of the treasure, and may take up a hard negotiating position to get it. However, the players (ideally) are looking to get past the negotiation stage and on to the adventure — and with the use of treasure parcels in 4e, the idea of a "percentage of the treasure" is a narrative device anyway; you're all going to get the same amount anyway, more or less.

comment A fantasy system with similar dicerolling and levels of success as World of Darkness
Not a bad suggestion, but Exalted isn't "medieval fantasy" in the way the OP describes. It's ancient world/mythic fantasy — more of a Greek epic-style world.
