comment What are the differences between Shadowrun 4th and 5th edition that I should know about?
Also, I've just noticed that Catalyst has put out a 30 pages long, free, introductory quick-start pdf for SR5e. Might give us the idea about what's what and what changed.

I have no first hand experience with either 4th or 5th edition, but there's a thread on rpg.net called Sell Me/Unsell Me Shadowrun 5e that you might want to look into. (I'm doing the same, as after a long, long while - 2e - I might be getting interested in SR again.)

comment Would Storytelling System (WoD's ruleset) work for a post-apocalypse setting?
And you're right about that. (The reason why I haven't gone into these details was that I have had the impression that Marcus knows the (n)WoD well enough. But even if I'm right about this, other readers may very well benefit from a list of the weaknesses, so: +1. :))

@Flamma I think a bit of tweaking, with some house rules and house-developed equipment, could fix all these issues. Storytelling (the system) is quite capable of handling action packed stories (see any iteration of Werewolf) if the PCs get some enhancement - which a post-apoc setting can easily provide. (Stimpaks indeed, and mutations, and cyber and bioware, etc. In fact, you could simply use the templates and / or powers of the supernatural branches: it's not a "vampire", it's a mutant. Drop the wolf-head of the Gauru form (oWoD's crions) and you've got a mutant again... and so on.) :)

@MarcusWigert Thanks, Marcus. As a side-note: Even though I'm obviously glad you accepted my answer, in the long run it's more practical (and kind of recommended) to wait at least a few hours or a day before you accept an answer, as others may post even better, more thorough and more relevant answers. :)

comment How can I judge if combat in a dungeon room attracts attention?
Why not go for a workaround, and ensure that there's a lot of loud and/or white-ish noise in most of the critical areas? Add pulsating magic, snoring dragons (in the distance), hissing and booming and clanking steamworks and machinery, roaring waterfalls, grinding, giant chains and so on...

@Clockwork-Muse What one side can do, the other will do as well, it's just a question of time. :) So, I need universal mechanics.

@Flamma I've updated/extended my answer with those details, please check them. (The book itself doesn't really go into more detail than that.)

comment Droid hacking in Star Wars?
@BESW Yes, I thought so, but there's most likely a serious overlap here. People seriously GMing Star Wars are probably aware of the "most official stance". But see my update to the Q, I've asked the same on SF&F. :)

@BESW Sure, I've thought of that myself, and probably will ask the Q there as well, without the RPG part. However, my main motive -- being, atm, a Star Wars GM -- is to learn the most official (G/T/C/S/N-canon, in this order) stance and gaming solution. :)
