I write computer software for a living, mostly in Perl. I give away lots of it. Share and enjoy!

In my spare time, I tell my daughter stories about Batman, read books, watch movies, play video games, and try desperately to play D&D even though nobody I know wants to.

comment 100 sides vs 10 sides
Also, the two d100's that I've owned both broke along their seam, spilling their rice-like content all over my bag. They're a waste of matter.

comment What role-playing games have good gamemaster advice sections?
I definitely agree about DMG2. The 3E and 4E DMG2s were some of the best "how to be a good game master" books I ever read.

comment Looking for solo (one person) RPGs - do they exist?
I wonder if you wouldn't be really, really helped along by using (daydreaming + random everything tables + dice). Normally I hate random tables, but if you're the player and the game master, it seems like a great help.

comment What tools or strategies have you found useful when not all players can be in the same physical space?
Do you find that combat is greatly slowed without voice communication?

comment Can you use a Spelljammer ship to get to Ravenloft?
"Yes, because it would be awesome." is pretty much the defining rule for adjudicating RPGs, for me.

comment What alternatives are there to replace orcs, kobolds, and hobgoblins in low-level encounters?
Thirded. I can't stand nearly any of the stock low-level monsters, but once you change their name and description, they're quite useful as "monsters of proven difficulty."
