comment What are the “Dark Powers”?
Spot on. It's worth noting that their specific nature has never been revealed and the original setting authors have opined that their exact nature should never be defined/revealed (it's unclear if they ever specified the nature of the powers).

We're keeping D&D (most of the group favors it), but I enjoy bringing in aspects from other systems (whether it be just for advice or actual mechanics).

Most are there for every session, no requirements. Again, I'm not looking for advice on how to run such a game from any answer, rather, I'm curious to see if there have been any games designed for such large groups (so I can read their advice :) ).

comment Are fantasy RPG races racial/cultural analogues to reality?
I disagree-the question is: has there has been a fantasy RPG race that has been based on a real world culture as indicated by the designers? For example, I've heard it proposed that D&D dwarves are based, intentionally, on Scottish culture. While I see the possibility, I'm not aware of this ever being cited as intentional. Hence the curiosity around if there has been a documented instance of a fantasy race based around a real world race/culture. I'm not asking for a catalog of the origin of all 10K+, but rather has there been an instance where the designers created an intentional analogue.
