comment What is the optimal way to design a well balanced party
I totally agree with you Danny. Let the players play the classes they want to play rather than shoe-horning one of them into a class that is "needed" but nobody wants to play. No healer? Make healing potions more available. The DM can always adjust the campaign to fit the party so everyone has fun.

I'm not a great on-the-fly guy, but this makes it sound very do-able. Thanks for a great answer.

I tend to be too picky on character creation. For a one shot adventure, I really like your thoughts on character builder auto-gen characters.

@Pulsehead: I think it comes from having 4 kids. Sometimes, you just have to teach them it's not worth it :)

comment Status Markers for Miniatures Games
yeah, I think I'm going to head to the local hobby shop and buy some shrink paper so I can make some for my game this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Some great links here. If you like the Dapper Devil kind of stuff, it seems like you could use some shrink paper ( amzn.to/bCmSua ) and create your own. You could use scrabble trays for holding them for each player character.

comment How does character movement translate to real-world speed?
If you think that many of those characters are carrying 50 lbs of gear, suddenly 9mph doesn't seem that slow to me.
