I run a GURPS fantasy campaign since 2008. I was one of the creators of the world we play in, Erinel, published in Czech. I have also authored a RPG about magi high on magic; my other tries for gamedesign and worldbuilding stopped halfway or were not published. Small, experimental indies are my other favorite RPGs after GURPS. I have also played Czech RPGs Dračí Doupě and Dračí Doupě Plus for some years.

comment Should I leave this group or recover it?
+1 for suggesting how to save the friendship: "You're my friend, we just have different playstyles" over "you did it completely wrong" and invitation to continue playing as a PC.

comment How can I make investigation engaging for the whole party?
Even more: lot of bussiness is the best way to make social characters not reign - they might get overwhelmed by other job. Also, place clues to areas where other PCs are "at home", while those "physical" find clues where they are "at home". An example from my game: a fighter PC went to wrestling arena and earned respect of an important witness, who told him "some interresting news" after the match. The witness would never trust party talkers to tell them (at least not without a lot of very hard die rolls).

comment How to use a GMPC for the good of the campaign?
This is what my brother did as a GM: he introduced a vampire high-priest much more powerful than the PCs, and more powerful than any other recurring NPC. She wants to use the PCs as pawns against her powerful enemies, and to corrupt one of the PCs to become her apprentice, so she has no reason to kill them before they grow too strong. Players hate her, but knowing that there is someone much more powerful than high-level PCs really enhances the game - the fear helps atmosphere and every minor victory against her makes players more happy than killing some other powerful villain.

I've done something like this multiple times, and players didn't like it.

comment Are undead mounts considered “evil”?
Note that if creating undead is invariably evil, most would argue that using an undead horse you found as prey is evil too. Some would argue otherwise. Anyway, riding on a zombie horse implies that you wouldn't object against against creating one (even if it is not true), and thus marking you as "evil" in most civilized societies.

comment Players playing multiple characters
One important thing to mention: they are not meant to be played at once. There is some soft rule saying that typical adventure concerns one mage, one or two companions and several grogs; if there are four players, one plays the mage, two play companions and one play all the grogs. Note that only one player plays more characters, which are similar to "hirelings" in DnD, having just few statistics and usually no detailed personality.

comment How do I handle moving to someone's back and attacking in GURPS?
@mxyzplk: one hint was that remark about 1x1 combat in original question. Another one in Josmar's comment: there would be no need to return to original facing if there was no enemy in that direction. My example presumes some second enemy in front - otherwise, the fighter will turn as fast as possible (though if the attacker is fast enough and does "move nad attack", such a situation could occur even in 1x1).

comment How do I handle moving to someone's back and attacking in GURPS?
@Josmar: it is possible, but I would never try it in real life (my qualification is a year with a historic swordsmanship group, so I have vague, but some idea about how real combat looks). What I would try is to retreat (the maneuver bryanjonker described) and turn to both enemies, or (if not possible) to turn cca 1/6 of the circle to have the rear foe in my "left/right". Turnaround is risky: both enemies can attack at once, or even at the moment I'm turning (in my campaign, most soldiers have Teamwork perk, so synchronization is normal; otherwise they could use wait maneuver).

This is generally "is there any other rule concerning this?" question. GURPS books are long and complicated, so I think this question is OK. But I didn't understand that 1v1 part either.

comment What should a DM do if a player wants to do something impossible?
I know many players enjoy it. But many players (including me) enjoy it even more if impossible things are discussed metagame, because the player can have some good reason to think they are not impossible. As a GM, I remember few times when I tried to abolish (in fact, set impossible difficulty) actions that were in fact hard, but possible. I don't want to say that your way of explaining in-game physics is bad, I just don't see WHY it should be the best one or at least a good one.

Why is this rule good, why should anyone else introduce it? "Just the way I run things" is not considered constructive here unless it helps the questioner somehow.

comment Crime Investigation in a fantasy world
Wasn't he "Judge" Dee? Books about Judge Dee were my number one source for low-tech investigation, and I recommend them to everybody interrested in this topic.

comment Truly alien NPC races
I like this. Fantasy cliché is that goblins are small and weak while orcs are big, but what if they're just one r-strategy race and orcs are just adult goblins? I did this in my world, justifying both ordinary goblinoid "cannon-fodder" strategies and frequent occurence of excellent orcish warriors are a challenge for high-level PCs even by themselves.

comment “High on Magic” - how original is it?
Paradox is slightly different, because it doesn't penalize any magic, just the vulgar magic. I already know Mage, but thanks for reminding.

comment “High on Magic” - how original is it?
It's not exactly what I have in my systems (a declaration is something you do before casting X in my game magic makes you do strange things after you cast spell), but definitely a good try, and something new to me. +1, but I'm not considering accepting the answer.

comment Pre-modern farming: What percent of the population is in agriculture?
Most of the other people (family members of farmers) work in agriculture too (children as herders, women as farmers/clothworkers/professional mothers and so on). For Middle Ages, only 5-20% people lived in towns, and almost everyone in the countryside had to work on fields at least in the time of the harvest. And average family was smaller due to high baby mortality.

comment What are the differences between the various editions of GURPS?
It's 200 hours per point, at least since 3rd edition.
