@thedarkwanderer that is why I have suggested the grapple in order to hold onto the creature, in my opinion this is the appropriate mechanism. There is no suggestion that the mount's in question are the size of the colossi in the video game you mention.

No, you can use any melee attack of your choice that can reach. A character with a longsword and s dagger could use either or an unarmed attack.
