comment How to get a witch's hair to look like snakes?
Just keep in mind: When it's all said and done, you're the DM. Do whatever feels best for you. Even if it can't necessarily be explained, your players will thank you for having an interesting opponent.

Ah. I didn't notice that the ability score increase gave two points instead of one.

comment Is there a way to learn someone's level in game in DnD3.x?
Hmmm... It sounds like you are looking more for something within your world, rather than a rules based thing. Maybe you could implement some form of official magic ranking system, in which people need to achieve some form of goal to advance in? This really doesn't sound like something you'd need the rules for, specifically.

You may want to look for things that let you know someone's hit dice, as this usually corresponds to level.

comment Looking for a game that does not need anything but character sheets
You might want to look into some old text-based RPG, as they didn't rely on visual aides and were interacted with purely through text. These also were less combat focused and more about puzzle/problem solving. The combat systems varied heavily from very intricate combat to very basic (one-two hit kill, maybe needs a specific weapon), so you might be able to mimic a less random-intensive system.

comment Are there any game systems whose shtick is that the PCs have dragon companions?
Not sure about rules themselves, but have you looked into the Dragonlance setting?

This isn't the Spell Points system found in Unearthed Arcana. Where is this from?

comment What's the history of the Darkness spell?
It might be important to note that in Forgotten Realms, the Drow have this as a special ability, and that 3.0/3.5 was largely based on that setting.

comment How do I model sinkholes collapsing under the PCs?
Have you considered making it a balance check? While it is possibly one of the most useless skills (in my opinion), it seems to suit your situation quite well.

comment Does a natural 20 initiative roll have any special rules?
I'm not sure whether this is a rule, or just how I've played (thus not an answer), but I treat it as an automatic first in the order UNLESS someone else gets a natural 20 AND has a higher initiative bonus.

The first (as noted by the "with errata").

Have you considered creating your own aberration to suit your needs?

Could you either add a system or make this system agnostic?

comment Why does everyone carry a 10' pole?
I've ruled that the rules actually were supposed to be 2 silver for the pole and 5 silver for the ladder, and this is how I would play if my PCs ever bought either of them.

comment How to fix sorcerors getting shafted by spell point variants?
Did you take into account when calculating this that the normal rules have you casting at your fullest caster level allowed by the spell? This might change this significantly. This might fall short, though, when you consider the difference between a damage-dealing spell and a static cost spell.

comment Why is Hand Crossbow regarded as Exotic Weapon in 3.5e?
@YogoZuno I'm not familiar with Greyhawk. I do mention that I may be wrong about the default campaign. The drow are similar in both, though, right?

The way I see it is that desecrate allows you to create your full allotment in one casting.

comment Animated dead in challenge ratings
What if the enemy spellcaster in question casts Animate Dead in the middle of combat on already prepared corpses? This has pre-combat preparation, but is casted during combat. I could really see someone wheeling around a cart of prepared corpses and just casting Animate Dead as an in-combat spell when his start dying.

And what if they are working with something bigger? Like a minotuar zombie (CR 4, has 12 HD, could be controlled by level 5 cleric)?

That link was a mistake, was supposed to be to dandwiki.com/wiki/SP_Spellcasting_%283.5e_Variant_Rule%29 (also fixed it in post)
