Dungeons and Dragons (3.5e) geek, currently playing a LG Chaos Dragon (8 HD, 4 LE) in a long term campaign. The character started out as a Fang Dragon but got reincarnated as a Chaos Dragon after an untimely demise...

I don't see how the part that you quoted is related to the question. The section that you refer to is an option that a character/creature with that ability can use to not be 'considered' grappling, by only using part of it's body. Additionally, that sub section ends at the sentence A successful hold....

Edited title to reflect that improved grapple is not really part of the question (in hindsight)

I was going to suggest Purple Dragon Knight from the Dragonlance campaign setting. However, you already found that one it seems ^_^

What if my sorcerer is a support caster, therefore not having any spells that are useful when I am alone (like in the situation that you described). You have to keep in mind the extremely limited number of spells known for a level 1 sorcerer.

comment Is Dungeons & Dragons the origin of “Bahamut” as a dragon?
@KRyan I think that you could add an almost identical question about the origin of Tiamat (Takhisis), who in the Sumerian/Babylonian mythology is more of a lion/eagle hybrid while from AD&D (at least) onwards she appears like the current 5 headed dominatrix.

I can see why people might think that, given how some completely new segments randomly appear in those columns.

That is what I was thinking already (hence the part between the 3rd and 4th quote block). I am happy that it is a reading/interpretation that is shared ;)

The rules of the game archive article explicitly states that it does "The creature's movement and the involuntary movement by anyone it drags along provokes attacks of opportunity normally.". Hence, the question since if you can move a creature without a grapple check and said movement provokes AoO, the combination is rather broken.

That is what the question was about, because the rules of the game article and the rules compendium contradict each other as far as I can tell.

The question was not about the sequence itself but rather which is now correct, being able to move with a creature without making a grapple check (as the rules of the game says) or that you need to make a grapple check to move the creature (as per the rules compendium). The problem with trying to use the MM block is that "It can even move (possibly carrying away the opponent), provided it can drag the opponent’s weight." sounds rather generic and I do not think that WoTC meant it so that a bear can just drag a creature past all of it's allies in order to trigger as many AoO as possible.

I do not really agree on that statement. However, let's not discuss that subject considering that entire books could be written about the 'value' of the RC (for instance, see rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/37466/…
