I work as a financial analyst for a large utility company. Ya, I'm a numbers geek for sure. In my spare time I play dodgeball, roleplaying games, and tend to hang out with the girlfriend and/or my friend group.

I play D&D 4E and love it. I'm a powergamer by default but I have been trying to force myself into following themes for my characters. So far I've created two characters that I'm quite fond of with one being a Barbarian/Fighter and the other being a Psion/Swordmage.

comment How does one keep track of all of the different statuses, conditions, and mathematically-entwined stats of FFRPG?
I am curious to know if you're comfortable with players using excel (i.e laptops) to track their characters as well as all of the temporary effects affecting them. I create all of my characters using an excel template I developed and as a consequence, I'm generally the one who tracks whatever for the GM. The spin off benefits are immediately noticeable as I never have to take more than a second to calculate my damage, to hit, buffs, debuffs, etc. and you can build in whatever temporary modifiers you need to. While I've only made templates for my D&D characters, you're more than welcome to them

I'm not 100% convinced on the precedent thing for the Scion PP, but I can see your logic. Maybe talking with the GM might be the best route.

Thanks that cleared up the debate in my head about summoned creatures.

comment How do attack penalties stack?
I'm planning on accepting your answer, but before I do I just want to confirm that my phantasmal killer attacking gets the -2 to hit from my psychic lock as you said "...it has the same effect as my dishearten above". This is important to my build as I'm thinking of taking a power "oni gift" that will weaken me but I'm hoping it won't affect my summoned creature's attack. So ultimately I just want clarification that my psychic lock feat will affect only me, or if it will include my summons (as I assume oni's gift would have the same rules apply).

comment Max distance a character can move while slowed factoring in anything
I don't have the compendium. Does this match what is in the phb page 277. That definition said the following: "Your speed becomes 2. This speed applies to all your movement modes, but it does not apply to teleportation or to a pull, a push, or a slide. You can’t increase your speed above 2, and your speed doesn’t increase if it was lower than 2. If you’re slowed while moving, stop moving if you have already moved 2 or more squares." It was the last part of this definition about stop moving that I was wondering about.

comment Intimidation in D&D 4e - What can it be used for and what are the consequences for doing so?
I thought that it addressed the question in King's original post of what is intimidate useful for. I was merely highlighting that each skill comes with the potential of several additional utility powers to choose from when leveling your character. @Oblivious Sage

comment Can I double move or use a standard action after using Scion of Arkhosia's Overland Flight?
So to recap the above for clarity for me: [DMG, page 48] This would have allowed me to do a standard action only after I have landed. [PHB2, page 223] This would have allowed me to do a standard action only after I have landed. [MM2, page XX] If you choose to use overland flight, you forego using your standard action period for your turn. Related, the MM2 definition is the one I should be using.

comment Can I double move or use a standard action after using Scion of Arkhosia's Overland Flight?
page 223: overland flight: An overland flight speed works like a fly speed with one exception: While you are in the air using your overland flight speed, you crash if you take any action other than a move action to use overland flight or a free action. [The big thing I question is the "while you are in the air" aspect... i.e. do a standard once i land...]
