Currently DMing the War of the Burning Sky for D&D 3.5, as well as playing a bard in 4th edition.

I started out with the Jedko Games printing of Frank Mentzer's red box (the 'B' in BECMI), which was quickly followed by the 2nd edition AD&D Player's Handbook. After a long hiatus, I started playing D&D again after the release of the Baldur's Gate PC game renewed my interest in the pen and paper version. Likewise, I only started playing 3rd edition after I was solidly addicted to Neverwinter Nights.

I've played (and GMed) a lot of Palladium games, particularly Robotech and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My roleplaying group were also fans of R. Talsorian Games' Cyberpunk and Cyberpunk 2020. I've also played Rolemaster and HARP, as well as Earthdawn.

comment What exactly are Prestige classes, and what purpose do they serve?
the Revised System Reference Document (RSRD) is a good resource for prestige classes such as Arcane Trickster, since it is 1. official 2. free 3. legal

comment Any good premade campaigns for beginners?
The majority of those adventures are for 4th edition (WotC), 1st edition (Dragonsfoot) or system-agnostic (the 5 room dungeons)

comment Does the spell “Control Weather” create a mobile effect?
I guess if it was supposed to move with the caster, then it would be an emanation, like Magic Circle against Evil

comment Converting D&D 3.5 characters to D20 Modern characters
Despite the mechanical difficulties of converting everyone's stats, I think this is a great concept for an Urban Arcana campaign: a fish out of water tale reminiscent of Enchanted or that movie with Jean Reno (Just Visiting) ... keep in mind the adage that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic"

comment Converting D&D 3.5 characters to D20 Modern characters
The gritty, low magic rules of Grim Tales aren't really suited to the gonzo, drow-with-uzis-riding-motorbikes style of Urban Arcana. However, I agree that Grim Tales would be a great alternative for a contemporary fantasy campaign that was more noir than bizarre.

that's impressively thorough - like a D20 equivalent of GURPS
