Dr. Brian Ballsun-Stanton is a Philosopher, Information Technologist, and Game Theorist exploring the Philosophy of Data. He has a Ph.D in Philosophy from The University of New South Wales in addition to a MS & BS in Information Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He has developed a new methodology (The Social Data Flow Network) to explore how individuals in the field understand the nature of data. Currently, his research is exploring the social construction of technology, focusing on the user-driven change of technological tools, in addition to his research of data warehouse ETL strategies for disparate data sets.

Beyond philosophy, Dr. Ballsun-Stanton has experience in haptic research, specifically the use of gesture control of human computer interfaces and an abiding interest in robotics as seen in his flying robotic cable-array manta-ray.

His interests include the academic study of Role-Playing games, the exploration of how science fiction literature transforms reality, and the social consequences of a technological world outpacing society's cultural assimilation of its consequences.

He is a long time gamer, having helped to design the indie game Pax Draconis. He has been running an Ars Magica game for the last 6 years and has extensive experience with indie games and both 3.5 and 4e D&D.

CBLoader is a way of adding house rules to the offline character builder: code.google.com/p/cbloader

As a side note, I assume that you're expliclty forbidding tools like CBLoader that can... get around that problem?

Do you want a specific one? Any of the universal systems will handle what you want without too much trouble. Is there a reason you don't want to play GURPS or HeroSystem? Also, be advised that 2-3 bullets and your dead makes for a very cautious game by the players.

Technically, accuracy is also improved as are effective crit chances by twin-strike, making your argument even better.

comment What “party” items are worth getting during character creation?
I can attest to the utter cheese/utility of a battle standard of healing. In a nasty fight, it can bring multiple people above 0, healing far far far far beyond its weight in HP.

Thanks! That's awesome! Welcome to the site! That is exactly what I was looking for. An aide memoir to see "well, does this match up with what I want to do?"

Fair enough, mate. To narrow down, I'd like a quick reference so that I can narrow down my search in the middle of a session when the MC asks me to level up, rather than a Pre-planned charOp. But good answer.

comment How to design an RP-balanced party?
-1, you didn't answer the question. How can the party be RP balanced? How can the GM help this. By requiring that each party-member be the macguffin to one quest... they don't need to perform any balancing.

comment Does damage resistance apply to a Blood Mage's self-inflicted damage?
As a note, the recent Arcanist errata has changes to blood mage: Bolstering Blood's extra damage is against one and only one target, and burning blood: "Updates and combines the feature’s effects: revises the damage type from psychic to fire and makes it ongoing damage, but requires the target to be suffering an effect that a save can end. "

comment What is the expected average damage for an area of effect power?
Er, yes? One of the main questions that is answered by considering the damage potential is "Given a requirement for damage, does this power satisfy that requirement more effectively than a single-target power?" The opportunity cost of the at-will is actually quite significant given the normal selections of 2-3 at-wills. Therefore an at-will that will be used, at best, once or twice a fight is an at-will with a damage multiplier of X/5 (x being number of uses.) simply due to the necessity and ability to cost the externalities of opportunity cost within the power. ... What did I just write?

comment How Do You Calculate the Average Damage for Twin Strike?
Also, as someone who's built many characters, there is no way I'd build an epic level character without online or offline character builder, there are just too many things to keep track of.
