comment Fair replacement rule for D&D 4e item creation?
A problem with reducing the parcel for the next level is that the character creating the magical items may not be sharing them with the rest of the party. It would be unfair to the rest of the party to reduce the treasure for the next level. And if you keep the rest of the party with equipment but lower it for the one player, it becomes obvious reverse discrimination

comment What is the best way to do search, or spot test when players knowing the result of their roll will colour their perception of the result?
You should always try to phrase the results in a way that doesn't tell them for certain that they passed or failed. If you usually say "the door isn't trapped", and then switch to using "you're confident the door isn't trapped" most players will meta-game and find a roleplaying reason to not use that door.

comment Experience for Role Playing
A problem occurs however, when the DM doesn't give out anything for roleplaying (boons, etc). I find when it's only combat that increases characters abilities, the game becomes more and more combat focused. And People then stop roleplaying as much, using the logic of "if Player A doesn't roleplay and gets the same amount of XP as me, why should I?"

We usually play in cities. Most of the encounters we run into are npc's that have class levels, many of which grant the teleportation. He has been abusing line of sight, since there have been a few situations where our opponents have teleported through walls.

@David, @Iain: We do receive full experience for defeating the encounter. The issue is more the frustration of not actually killing the creatures, and that they keep coming back again and again
