Roleplaying doesn't need rules to be adjudicated. It is possible have mechanics for specific circumstance but the general situation the OP describes is primarily pure roleplaying. The rule is the one found in all RPGs. That the players describe or roleplays what his character is doing and the referee adjudicates the results. This rule is sufficient to cover this situation.

Thanks and to answer your first comment. No other than my own personal recollection and the fact it was the 2nd most popular fantasy RPG for a while. Runequest was the first RPG I know of that totally did away with any type of class.
