I'm a web developer currently living in Santiago, Chile. I'm always trying to improve my skills. I earn my daily bread on PHP / (My|PostGre)SQL / JavaScript development, working with CakePHP, PrototypeJS, Script.aculo.us and jQuery, but I'm also experimenting with Django. I'm interested in many areas of programming and in learning new programming languages.

I'm also a budding roleplayer and GM. I have mastered D&D 4E and Numenera, and love the job. Find me at @adrianovaroli or @FailedGM.

comment How much do I tell new players about new monsters?
The issue is what's in the D&D5E rules about the matter. Your broadening says basically the same thing as before.

Apart from the other problem, you go from "Just what they see", which is a specific criterion, to "it's perfectly legitimate for them to know a fair bit, but there are limits." The question asks for those limits.

The quip about skills being enough to throw up is unnecessary. Your answer could do without it.

comment How can an aristocracy be perpetuated between creatures that can't interbreed?
@Smithers thing is, it was a common reading of "producing offspring" in ancient history and medieval times.

comment Dealing with difficult male players, when you're a new female player?
We routinely downvote answers that suggest solving real-life problems with roleplaying. Why shouldn't we do it here?

Related and may be the heart of what you're really asking (because the question you've stated has the simple answer of "Yes"): How does D&D Vancian Magic Make Sense In-Game?

comment Comparing D&D mechanics between 2e and 5e
This question and its answers made me want to try 5E. Thanks!

comment What can I leave out of a first session?
Do you give the players fate/persona points for the first mission? I thought they could only earn them after a mission. I see that the pregens start with 1 FP and 1 PP.

comment How do I prevent retreating to rest and heal from being tedious?
None of the -great- answers so far addresses the issue in a non-punitive way. Aren't there mechanics in D&D5E that encourage people to keep fighting?

comment Can I throw my hands to spite my enemies?
Hey. A monk could bite both her hands off, and spit them at her enemies. Wait, no. That'd be undignified.
