I'm probably best known in the RPG world for occasional contributions to Call of Cthulhu, although I've also been active in the world of Jorune in the past. I'd like to be more involved with Trail of Cthulhu, but haven't got around to running any yet.

Besides these more traditional RPGs, I'm also interested in more modern games such Don't Rest Your Head, FATE, Dogs in the Vineyard, Apocalypse World, and others.

comment What are the main differences between Call of Cthulhu and Trail of Cthulhu?
This isn't a bad answer, but you'd do a lot better to go to yog-sothoth.com and read the forums there, particularly the dedicated ToC one. This question has been discussed a lot there.

revised Where does the term “nova” come from?
Made clear what the answer is explaining (the attack, not the original definition)

Yes, a definite improvement!

This is very true, and think the question seriously needs more focus. As it is, I can't believe anyone has tried to answer it, and I don't have much faith in the answers given as a result. There are so many possibilities on such a wide spectrum that it seems the only way you could answer it is not to know enough about the subject! :-)

comment What would you pick as the “four elements” of mind?
On your Tibetan one, the five elements are associated with five buddhas who embody all these qualities. It's not the easiest of materials to get to grips with, but Googling "five buddhas" throws up some useful pages.

Depends a bit on your definition of "comfortable". TWs can certainly be viewed by many people at once, and there are locking add-ins. These allow each tiddler to be locked when being edited, to avoid collisions. Not clear whether multiple concurrent editing is part of the OP's requirements, but I wouldn't think so.

comment What characterizes a “Modern” role playing game or gaming system?
I think this generalisation about players defining the stakes in indie games rather too broad. Yes, it's often seen, because it's a useful technique. But it's far from universal.

I do not agree that the way to answer this question is to talk about D&D just because it's been around a long time, even though the OP mentions it. He's asking about overall trends in game design, not just the difference between OD&D and 4e. gomad's answer to this question is pretty much correct, IMO. The idea that "skills" is a characteristic of modern RGPs, for example, is obviously absurd, as LordVreeg pointed out.

-1 for talking about D&D as though it were all RPGs, when it seems you have rather incomplete knowledge of D&D, let alone anything else. But edit to make this clear, and I'll happily change it to +1.
