Biggest GM pitfalls for new GMs? In reality as I encounter it such descriptions fast become annoying and the players demand to go on with the fight. |

How to design game elements other than combat? I know that this example can be done by role-playing instead. But I have the general feeling, that most systems I played so far are centered on combat. If you don't like that example, how do you handle a search for something? Do let the players roleplay: 'I look in this edge, and under the carpet and ...'. What if you play a sports competition. One skill-check and done? I want to play with more focus on these activities, that's why I ask this question. |

Are there any RPGs released based on the world of Bas-Lag? D&D can be tuned to thaumaturgy, torque and crisis-energy? Great. An own game designed for this world would be better though. I should make Paizo happy and buy this copy of the magazine. |

What free software can I use for laying out my own RPG? Ah, and LaTeX can look fancy, it can have background images, nice fonts and whatever you want else. And the good thing is, you have only to learn how to make that once, after that you can copy the sequence or put it into a macro. Very good timesaver. Take a look at trias.ludus-leonis.com - it is also made whit LaTeX and doesn't look too sciencey for me. |

What free software can I use for laying out my own RPG? LaTeX is a great tool for a 24-hour-contest, because you can use all your time creating your RPG instead of focusing on layout. But there is a downside: You have to know it already. Learning LaTeX needs some effort, 24 hours aren't enough for that. So if you don't know it yet, don't start learning it for the contest. But for a contest next year, it might a good idea to play a little with LaTeX, so you can get the skills to use it well. You can ask questions over at tex.stackexchange.com. I started my RPG in LaTeX, you can look at the source for reference: gaia-rpg.origo.ethz.ch |
