The way I have always ruled it in games is that matching your number counts as a successful die roll and gives you a question. I also allow the effect to stack. Lasers and feelings is, at least in the way I have run it, a light game where a good story comes first.

How compatible are 5E rules with SRD rules?

I make a lot of characters focused on giga-smiting and have played with countless DMs, all of which allowed me to smite like this. RAW, it is possible, and most DMs(if not all) will allow you to put the hurt on stuff with this.

Ways to Increase the number of attacks for a Fighter using 2-handed Weapons

How can a 2-handed weapon fighter archetype increase their number of melee attacks per round? I am only interested in increases through feats or abilities, not by magic items or spells. I already ...

Not much is known, but from what I can gather, there are some wizards called the kaortu who got mutated, some old gods and a couple of giant lovecraft-squid thingies. For laughs, you can have some have a mindset like a cats, or unable to comprehend simple things like "shapes" but understand the fundamentals of the universe and spout out the quantum ...

Give them something to spend the money on. For example, say the dragon's hoard is 100,000gp. This is a lot, by mundane standards. The equivalent of a big lottery win. But there are still things they would have trouble buying. A big haul like that could attract the attention of various (magical?) salesmen. Offer the party purchases along the lines of a castle ...

As long as the Umber Hulk and the people with the spell up are in contact with the same ground and are within the radius of the Umber Hulk's tremorsense, then yes the Umber Hulk knows that the party is there. Now if the party isn't in contact with the same ground as the Umber Hulk, then no, the Umber Hulk doesn't know that the party is there if it doesn't ...

Is there software which can serve as a virtual DM? [closed]

I want to play D&D but have no one to play it with. Is there a virtual DM that creates the adventure as you play? If not, is anybody good enough at programming to do it?

What software can I use to simulate a deck of cards for playing online? [closed]

I'm going to be running a game over a Google+ hangout, and the game needs a deck of cards that all of the players will draw from, keeping some of the draws hidden. I've searched around but most of the ...

In my opinion I believe it would be a judgment call on the particular projectile. If its a solid spike that is on fire, maybe the monk deflects or even redirects it, but maybe takes like a single point of fire damage or to the monks weapon, cuz hot is still hot, . But if it was an injection projectile, like a stinger that being shot, then the monk and ...

I understand this is a very old post, but I think you can still use an acrobatics check for the fall. Just to see if the character was able to survive standing up after the fall or go prone after the fall.

Here's my opinion: With my knowledge, this is actually probably what the creators intended, given the circumstances, but I can only guess. (maybe slightly op but not game-breaking) The reasoning: The reference to the ...

For elementals, it can be something that opposes their natural element (a flask containing water for a fire elemental for exemple), for a demon, it could be a holy symbol and on the contrary, something fiendish in nature for a celestial. Depending of the DM, you can even be pretty lenient with the definition of "item". My DM once authorized the wizard I play ...

An interrupted ritual of a night hag will cause the hag to leave the child. the child will be prone to sorcerous magic or might be approached later by it's mother to form a warlock pact. in very rare cases, if the hag's final ritual is interrupted at the last second the child may be able to choose to accept the magic, or remain as they are. at this point ...

I don't know if it is viable, but I'd advise you split the group in two and perhaps invite one or two more people. Having two groups will mean more preparation time but if you enlarge the time between sessions I don't think it'll be a problem. That also opens the possibility of mixing groups or swapping people in them. Anyways this is a decision that would ...

In the past I was informed that Rule of Magic #1 is: Magic can not be broken unless the magic being used is greater than or equal to the magic in it. So a +1 sword can not be broken unless another +1 weapon is being used to break it. A +1 weapon can not break a +2 weapon. But a +2 weapon can break a +1 weapon. So a maul can not be used to break a +1 weapon. ...

Yes. It would still need to make an attack roll and then damage roll. I did that in a campaign I ran a while ago.

Traditionally, the term "monster" in D&D has referred to any creature encountered while adventuring, even human NPC's! Although this usage is not, to my knowledge, currently in vogue, I would rule that the term monster is still broad enough to incorporate hostile humanoid creatures such as goblins and orcs. These type of creatures don't care about ...

I'm fairly sure it's just a more robust type of mirror, one that won't break in the event of a fall, concussive blast etc. the gm could easily find a way to break your real mirror if they wanted to for some reason, but a steel mirror would need a more convoluted destruction.

To my knowledge you would have a few warlock slots and a few wizard. If you are a wizard 10 / warlock 10 you would have: 4 level 1 spells 3 level 2 spells 3 level 3 spells 3 level 4 spells 4 level 5 spells - 2 of these come from warlock, the rest are from wiz

You would end up with your wizard slots plus your warlock slots. They don't mix.

Need to be able to do the somatic component (so this would be useless while being grappled). Need an item in hand that is distasteful to the target of the spell. -3

Yes, you can cast it using a spell slot. Spells you can cast because of your race are spells you know, and thus can be spells you prepare. This works essentially the same way as if you had gained access to this spell through multi-classing.

That immediately feels like just attempting to circumvent the rules and I would personally not allow it. Holding it with anything other than your hand makes little sense to begin with; it's a heavy two-handed weapon. You need two hands to use it, so unless you have two mouths... Sorry, imho it's just too far fetched.

-3

I would say that this is up to the DM, but I would rule that yes it does change shape with wild shape. If the armor changes shape with you then if you change shape it makes sense that it would also change shape.

You're looking for "From the Shadows" (hopefully I'm not too late to answer). The module includes the following text, spoken to the adventurers by the lich Azalin on page 10: "Now my fine, brave adventurers, you are going on a quest for me. I am sending you to a wedding. This is not just any wedding! This is the wedding of Sergei Von Zarovich....

Yes, you can additionally change the way you look (using this magic). To be fair they specifically call out that if they are going to use a defined term for Any ruling that it will be capitalized when used as such or else it is merely the word as standard meaning. You can, and most answers assume that once inside your living being would begin to use up air until they suffocated. I believe this only happens if you close the bag. If you leave the bag partially open, your being would be able to stay inside indefinitely assuming they have food and drink and don't poison it with their biological waste.

-1

When you open the bag there is no woosh as it fills with air so I assume it's like a stargate to an empty void in that there is a membrane-like barrier that stops water, air, poisonous gas, etc. from rushing in or out just by opening the bag. The dimension in the bag has no air and the occupant can only hold their breath for so long. You can't just hold it ...

The basic rule of thumb is, When the enemy uses THEIR move action, it can provoke an attack. If their movement is done via any other method than their own action, it cannot provoke an attack of opportunity.

-2

The very notion that it is a sphere of darkness (darkness that spreads to fill a sphere) assumes that light can't go through, otherwise the sphere itself would be transparent. It has to absorb light to appear as darkness. And obviously, if light can't pass through it, it casts a shadow.

Another option is to start them off at a higher level. This way you finish the campaign at level 20.

While an updated version is available in Xanathar's, a Samurai subclass for the fighter is available for free in a 2016 Unearthed Arcana: https://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/2016_Fighter_UA_1205_1.pdf

Look at Xanathar's Guide to Everything If you pick the Fighter class and look at Xanathar's Guide to Everything, they have a Samurai Archetype in there for when you hit 3rd level. That may be what you're looking for.
