2017 Moderator Election

Hi, I'm doppelgreener. I'd like to join the diamond moderator team.

I see the role as a natural extension of the caretaking I've been doing for the site. I believe I'm very well-suited to the role, and should do what I can. (With great power comes great responsibility, sorta.)

I'm even-tempered, thoughtful, patient, and I'm confident I can handle the stresses of being a moderator. I'm well-trained in handling difficult personal situations, and I'm confident I can moderate firmly and appropriately when needed — and step back enough to empower the community as a whole. I feel that I can add useful different perspectives to the moderator team based on my background.

I've been active here for five years, maybe best known for editing all the things. _o\ I've consistently focused on supporting site members via help in meta or chat or comments, and keeping the site clean via editing and flagging and other tasks.

I know I won't be perfect, and I'll make mistakes, but I'll be mindful to listening and learning and improving myself to support you all as best I can.

Hello I'm Josh and I would like to be your moderator

We have both a truly unique Stack in the wider Stack Exchange and an incredibly unique service that we offer the wider RPG community as a go-to resource. Our community is full of experts and is both highly active and welcoming to new users.

I've been active on the site for just under 5 years and involved in Q&A on the main site, meta questions, Review tasks, and curating and updating wiki tags. I always enjoy helping a user in RPG.SE main chat and generally discussing gaming issues. I was heavily involved in RPG.SE's push for D&D 5e's release and believe that we should continue similar efforts for other releases.

As moderator I would continue the focus on letting the community taking action first in all but the worst cases. I believe that the site works best when users handle the majority of the review tasks. This civic ethic makes everyone a stakeholder and strengthens our community. I assume no ill intent until proven in all interactions with users and always seek to listen and respond thoughtfully.

I'm Marshall, long-time SE member, but relatively new to the RPG-SE.

I am a Software Engineer by day, and a DM and Game Designer by night. Most of the time I spend on the RPG-SE is a combination of looking for answers to odd questions that have come up in my own games, or looking for new perspectives other than my own. One of the challenges I have is trying to understand the viewpoints of my players, so reading many of the question threads on this stack has come in handy numerous times and it is an excellent source for fun and weird things to throw into a game.

I feel that I am fair and respectful to others, and would make a balanced moderator. The SE environment is designed so the community ultimately is the driver for moderation. It should be a relatively rare circumstance when a moderator intervenes without the support of the community itself. There are some instances where enforcement of the agreed upon rules are necessary (e.g. lengthy conversations in comments, answers in comments [which I am also guilty of], etc).

I feel like the nature of the RPG side of this SE makes it different than the traditional idea of a Q&A site, as there are many unique situations.

Hi! I'm nominating myself for moderator this time around. Principally, I'm interested in how our moderation team shapes community process-- in that way I'm a bit of the opposite of Erik. I think that the way being a moderator alters the community's perception of a user is the single most important power we give our moderators, and that the authorization to do all the background work is just an extension of that.

On the upside, I'm told I'm good at taking criticism. On the downside, I have substantive issues with the way we currently do things and that might make it hard (but hopefully not!) to work with the existing moderators. I don't have problems with any of them as people, and I think that any problems we had could be talked out, but it's possible that that sentiment is not mutual, which would make me a bad pick for moderation.

Also, I'm told I write text walls too much, but I'm working on that.

My Questionaire Responses

I've been around RPG.Stack for a few years now and if there's one thing out I've learned its that tons of nerds out there who play tabletop games have tons of questions, and I've learned a lot in the process of answering those questions as well.

So I'll throw my bread into the ring and get into the meat of this election. With the power of both patience and knowledge I will force everyone to submit to my phenomenal moderation power, ruling with a crusty fist as the Chaotic Neutral despot Sandwich this country of RPG.stack needs.

In all seriousness though, I don't really know a lot about moderation, In this aspect I am a very inexperienced sandwich, fresh out of the toaster oven. but I do know what makes a good answer and question. (Text formatting, non-ambiguous, non-broad topics with a clear cut answer, meat pressed into the middle of two pieces of bread.)

So I'll try my best to not grow mold in the face of overwhelming adversity, appearing when the time is right to panini press bad questions into submission.

Hi. I'm Erik and I'm giving this a shot.

I believe in letting experts do their thing, as they're experts because they know what they're doing. I prefer suggesting a course and two-way communication over leadership or strict guidance.

I hope to create a site where moderators can sit back and watch the community handle things well, as the Stack is intended to function. When that doesn't work (does it ever?) I will seek to talk with those involved, find out what's going on and hopefully correct actions by showing and teaching our users the vision of StackExchange rather than telling them how they should act.

That said, I am willing to confront those who really do not want to help us make the best Q&A site possible. I have been in charge of large communities before and while I took pride in only having to use administrative powers very rarely, I had no problems doing so to protect the community.

I like RPG.SE, and particularly like the wide mix of people, games, and topics that come up here and get great answers to questions. I came to the site to get a question answered about something D&D 5e, as I was just getting back into the hobby, and I stayed because there is a great community of users here who

3. Help new users write good answers
4. Promote a good signal to noise ratio
5. Share a passion for this interesting hobby
6. Are all about fun (which is why we play)

Hi, I'm Lino.

I am active daily on the boards, provide polite but firm discourse to address questions and answers, and routinely assist with both Q and A as required. If and when issues arise, I have dealt with them in what I think is a polite and logical manner.

I'm primarily concerned with D&D 5e, which is where my presence has and will be most felt, but I do venture outside of this bubble quite frequently in order to familiarize myself with others on the boards, as well as with other systems in general.

I am consistent and thorough. I prefer to set a standard for which others can follow and rigorously adhere to it. I also have a lot of free time available to assist with any of the tedious moderation activities such as cleaning up old comments and addressing flags.

For both your consideration and potential approval, this is my formal submission for the position of moderator.

I'll put myself down as the "noob" candidate.

I've loved RPGs since like 20 years ago as a teenager, been playing them "seriously" ;-) for about 2 years and collected almost all of D&D 5e.

I like old school stuff but I don't hate new stuff. I love the research and background reading aspects of RPG gaming too.

I'm about 100% in all three "pillars" of RPG (fluff, crunch and collecting shiny overpriced stuff), but I don't consider my "acheivements" any more than a cool hobby (while not hating those who find it more all-consuming).

I'll also happily assist those who have the gall to come on a question and answer site to ask questions without knowing the answers to their questions up front ;-) or even knowing how to ask a good question. Because that's me.

Hi all-

I'm nitsua60 and am a relatively-new member. I came out of curiosity, lingered for the high signal-to-noise ratio, now I've come to think of it as my "internet home." I love the gracious professionalism that abounds here, the experiences we share, and the mutual respect we display.

I'm particularly interested in the experience of newer users. While not every visitor will want the community and resource we offer, I think we can do a better job of showing off the things we do best: being patient and kind, listening to and learning from each other. Basically, I'd like more people to have this reaction:

I'll admit, a bit flabbergasting to find the Roleplaying Stack Exchange is a healthy community full of knowledgeable, considerate people. I hardly expected anyone to read my monsterlith of text.

I'm active just-about every day, I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the project's new (and old!) problems, and I generally assume when I'm confused it's because I've got something to learn.
