Mar 4, 2021 at 10:00 comment added SpiderWaffle The Loxodon Trunk or the Simic Hybrid Grappling Appendages could, by a rather generous DM interpretation, allow for fulfillment of the ammunition property. Though, ammunition such as bolts, should probably be considered a weapon and thus expressly not allow by RAW, but I don't believe they are officially in any RAW classified as weapons.
Mar 4, 2021 at 9:55 comment added SpiderWaffle It would be worth noting that you could also attack with any one handed weapon, a rapier being a strong choice, and then drop it for 'free' and use your bonus action to attack with a hand crossbow that you were either already holding in the other hand or using your object interaction to draw it. You could then use your object interaction on subsequent turns to either pick up the rapier or draw another one and repeat.

Oct 18, 2018 at 20:29 comment added Yakk Note that if you have 4 hands and 2 attacks on the attack action, you can fire with a heavy crossbow, fire with the hand crossbow, then use the bonus action to fire with the hand crossbow again. For completeness. ;)

Oct 18, 2018 at 17:17 comment added T.J.L. @vonBoomslang Technically correct, but as two-handed weapons, they don't even get past the comma.
Oct 18, 2018 at 17:06 comment added vonBoomslang I'd point out that not only are Light and Heavy crossbows not one-handed weapons (they don't trigger the third feature), they're not what the third feature calls by name when describing the benefit - a hand crossbow.
