Oct 1, 2021 at 12:55 comment added T.J.L. @nick012000 This answer is editing the text from the sourcebook to suit it's own interpretation. Those quote blocks are not legitimate quotes.

Sep 30, 2021 at 20:43 comment added T.J.L. It's unfortunate that you can't see the similar answer from a very-high reputation user posted at the same time as my answer two years ago. You can't see it because they self-deleted it. As I am not the author in question, I can't say why they deleted their contrary answer, but we can all guess...
Sep 30, 2021 at 3:22 comment added nick012000 The fact you must be wearing it does not obviate the fact that it must also be held in your hand to use it as an arcane focus. You have to tip the hat or grip the amulet when you want to use them as foci.
Sep 29, 2021 at 14:54 comment added Andrew Hat of wizardry says "While you are wearing it[...]You can use the hat as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells." just like the holy symbol it specifies how you use the hat (worn) to use it as a focus Dark Shard Amulet has the same text "While you are wearing it[...]You can use the amulet as a spellcasting focus for your warlock spells."
Sep 29, 2021 at 13:35 comment added Thomas Markov "However, there is no such mention in the description of the Hat of Wizardry", well, there is, it says "while you are wearing". You go on to say "The text only states that they can be used a a focus", which is patently false, as it also says "while you are wearing".
Sep 29, 2021 at 13:33 comment added Thomas Markov Seems a bit disingenuous to leave out the "while you are wearing it" portion of the item description. You're just taking part of the description out of context to make your point because leaving it in context makes your argument significantly weaker.

Sep 29, 2021 at 11:16 comment added Guillaume F. @Medix2 Using the item as a focus still follows the spellcasting rules, which require a free hand. Wearing the item is an additional requirement, and not a replacement for the usual rules.
Sep 29, 2021 at 11:09 comment added Exempt-Medic "This is not different than the description for other foci". False. The item specifically states that you can use it as a focus while wearing it not while holding it
