It's only necessary to work out specific mechanics if the DM expects the players will have to discover the weak spot by accident, and (as others have noted) that is very likely to be a frustrating experience unless the DM heavily telegraphs the weak spot during combat. In any scenario other than dumb luck, everyone at the table will be aware of the fact that the party has learned that this creature has a weak spot, and it will be safe to assume that every attack attempts to target the weak spot. | |
