(Unlike When a druid wild shapes to a beast that has double proficiency with a skill, should the druid's proficiency bonus be doubled with that skill?, this is not asking whether you double the druid's native proficiency bonus.)

Similar to the rogue's Expertise feature, some monsters double their proficiency bonus for certain skill proficiencies. Can a druid continue to add the beast's doubled proficiency bonus to those skills? If so, would it stack with the druid's potentially higher mental ability scores (Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma)?

For example, the giant wolf spider adds its standard proficiency bonus (+2) to Wisdom (Perception) checks, but adds double its proficiency bonus to Dexterity (Stealth) checks.

The giant octopus is a CR1 beast, which gives it a proficiency bonus of +2, according to the Proficiency Bonus by Challenge Rating table, so it doubles its proficiency bonus for both its Wisdom (Perception) checks and its Dexterity (Stealth) checks.

When a level 8 druid with a proficiency bonus of +3, skill proficiencies in Perception and Stealth, and a Wisdom modifier of +3, wild shapes into a giant octopus, how are his skills recalculated?

  1. Keep the doubled proficiency bonus in all cases, because +4 is greater than the druid's native +3:
    • Stealth +5 (beast's DEX +1 and +4 doubled proficiency bonus)
    • Perception +7 (druid's WIS +3 and +4 doubled proficiency bonus)
  2. Keep the doubled proficiency bonus for only physical ability scores:
    • Stealth +5 (beast's DEX +1 and +4 doubled proficiency bonus)
    • Perception +6 (druid's WIS +3 and +3 druid's proficiency bonus)
  3. Use the druid's proficiency bonus in all cases, because +3 is greater than the beast's undoubled proficiency bonus of +2:
    • Stealth +4 (beast's DEX +1 and +3 druid's proficiency bonus)
    • Perception +6 (druid's WIS +3 and +3 druid's proficiency bonus)
