I am running a campaign and one of the players is a Druid. After beating a specific wizard, I want to give the party an item that will allow at least one of them to communicate with her while wild shaped. I was thinking that he would have an item that allows the holder to cast "Message" even if they otherwise couldn't. What are some creatures that a wizard who thinks he is smart/creative would dismember to make said magic item? Preferably the creature would automatically have magic/mind powers. Unfortunately, mind flayers don't have ears.

\$\begingroup\$ Unfortunately this is still opinion-based as it's now just asking for a list of ideas, which isn't something this site is built for. Questions here need to be able to conceivably have a single, best answer. At the moment there's no way to determine whether one answer would be any better or worse than another. "What monster could be used to make such an item?"; literally any. You'll need to narrow down the question and set some criteria for what you're looking for. \$\endgroup\$ – Purple Monkey Oct 8 at 4:29
  • \$\begingroup\$ What's wrong with just having a magic item that can be used to cast message or create a telepathic link between characters? Why do you even need a monster for this item? Have you looked through the DMG for magic items that already exist? Why wouldn't they work? Why does a mind flayer not having ears matter if you're also looking for telepthic monsters? Are you specifically looking for creatures with ears? Why doesn't a mind flayer work or meet your criteria? Does the CR of the monster matter? \$\endgroup\$ – Purple Monkey Oct 8 at 4:29
