Me and my friend are dueling Level 20 PCs(No Multiclassing). I choose Fighter and he chooses Wizard. Can you guys suggest me builds or tactics I can use against him so I can win?

  • Must be a level 20 Fighter, no multiclassing
  • We are allowed to have only 3 Uncommon, 2 Rare, and 1 Very Rare Magic Items.
  • The dueling arena is an oval shaped Gladiator Pit 110ft on its longest side and 30ft on its shortest.
  • Starting positions are ???
  • Stat generation methods is ??? (e.g. Point Buy/Rolled 4d6D1)
  • Any official books are allowed

What is the best combination of build and tactics to give me the best possible chance of winning this fight?

\$\begingroup\$ If you could describe the dueling scenario in-depth, an answer becomes more possible. Is this a straight-up gladiatorial combat in a large open space? Is there any chance of ambushing him? What source materials are allowed? \$\endgroup\$ Jan 13 at 4:39

\$\begingroup\$ If the wizard's player is allowed to look at your character sheet before the fight then I do not believe that it is possible for you to win. It's simply a matter of him casting save-or-lose spells that target your worst save. If you had an unlimited budget for magic items you might be able to pick up enough immunities to avoid that, but as it is... \$\endgroup\$

\$\begingroup\$ @ObliviousSage This isn't so obvious. Depending on the starting position the wizard just dies before they ever get a turn if the fighter has the right build, but OP needs to fill in these details. \$\endgroup\$
