I am a new DM, and ONE season in, I ran out of ideas on how the story will progress.

so basically what happened is that my player woke up in an old run-down inn run by an old lady named Lynda. so my player went down to the dining room and while Lynda was making his food, he met Jerry, a rat. so basically after my player went to bed Lynda got him up in the morning because she needed to do some cleaning. so he goes down to get some food but like almost everyone is a wild animal who can talk (like Jerry) it is also worth mentioning that in this town, it's illegal to go out on adventures. (my plan is to either have my players kill the king or find a way to escape the town) so if anyone has any ideas on how to continue the campaign, please share!!!
