For questions about halflings or hobbits, a fictional race that appears in a number of tabletop role-playing games (including D&D). The term "halfling" is an alternative name for J. R. R. Tolkien's hobbit; in RPGs, the term was first adopted in later printings of the OD&D boxed set to avoid legal issues with the Tolkien estate. Halflings are traditionally depicted as a friendly humanoid race, very similar to humans but only half their size.
