The first edition of Legend of the Five Rings which was released in 1997. The setting primarily involves the fictional empire of Rokugan. Based roughly on shogunate Japan with influences from other East Asian cultures such as China, Mongolia, Korea, and Vietnam, with fantastical elements of those cultures. The system uses the 'roll & keep' method. Players roll the first number of dice keeping the total value of the second, example 5k3 (roll 5 keep 3).
