D&D has [Fortune cards][1] and it's a nice reward for a character to have a "permanent new ability" that's not so powerful but it's cool and fits with the character. You can make your own "fortune power" that fits your campaign/world.

As said before, rewarding a flaying mount or a powerful allay or a little fief will also be very appreciated by the players. In various campaigns I tried all of this rewards and my players were very happy.
