I'm looking for a prestige class I came across in the giant list of D&D books I have on my hard drive.   It's a wizard prestige that lets you create your own familiar instead of summoning one.  Also lets you construct your own Golem at its last level.  I believe it also gives the mage access to healing spells.  It had a depiction of a wizard over a cauldron.  It said something about the wizard studying and creating life.  I remember the prerequisite was Craft Wondrous Item.
