Demon: The Descent (CoD:DtD) is the ninth major supernatural game for the Chronicles of Darkness (formerly known as 'new' World of Darkness). It is the first new line to be release entirely under the God Machine Rules Update ().

DtD focuses on Demons, the fallen Angels of the God-Machine. Angels are the God Machine's most powerful servants, intelligent, flexible and powerful. Self aware, but without free will. Demons are Angels who have gained free will -- in a sudden burst of insight, disagreement, rage, or loss they decide to disconnect from the machine. Demons have left the God Machine, and the God Machine wants them back, or at least neutralised.

Demons and Angels, like many of the God Machines creations are a fusions of natural biology, and technology beyond mortal ken. The 'magic' powers of demons (and the god machine) steam from little know, obscure, laws of physics.

The themes of Demon are techgnostic espionage, paranoia and realisation of free will.
