The grung first appeared in AD&D 2e as a type of monster native to swamps and marshes in the Greyhawk setting. They later appeared in D&D 5e as monsters found in rain forests and tropical jungles in the Forgotten Realms (especially Chult). They were also given stats in 5e as a playable race in the One Grung Above supplement released for Extra Life, though this document is described as "unofficial" and not legal for Adventurers League organized play.
