Railroading generally refers to a GMing style or technique where some or most outcomes are pre-determined. Although the connotation is often negative, railroading can be done well and is a functional play style for some groups. Since all games that invest a large amount of responsibility and game control in one player (a game master, or "GM") have some degree of railroading, techniques for doing it well and for using it judiciously while allowing creativity and player agency are valuable.
