Jun 11 at 0:12 comment added ProphetZarquon "If the spell has a target", implicitly indicates the possibility of spells which do not have a target; the only examples I can find of a spell that doesn't require targeting either a creature, or object, or location, are spells with a Range of Self. I can understand the interpretation that Self spells don't have a target unless they say they do & so a triggering creature would cause the spell to affect the caster. I don't know if I like that, but I can see the line of reasoning... Is there any RAW indicating that Self spells target?

Aug 27, 2021 at 23:03 comment added Haravikk There's another part of the rules that may apply here, under casting a spell -> range: "Other spells, such as the shield spell, affect only you. These spells have a range of self". This isn't a target, it's a range; targeting restrictions (humanoid, enemy etc.) are usually specified in the spell description. I'm not sure Glyph of Warding overrides the limitations of Self.
