You can take larger problems with the hold process to meta where it can be properly documented, debated, and dealt with. That can’t be done in comments.

Feb 25, 2019 at 17:19 | comment | added | SaggingRufus | this is not an X-Y problem, I just want to know if this idea sounds like it could solve meta-tatics and also the overall effect on the game. If the question is unclear, Let me know and I can update which ever part is unclear.

Feb 25, 2019 at 16:26 | comment | added | SaggingRufus | @NautArch I am trying to figure out if taking this one portion of the speed initiative variant will 1) Solve the issue of potential meta-gaming 2) Break the game in anyway 3) Find out how rolling initiative each turn will change the game from the standard roll once. If people have tried and don't think it was healthy for some reason, I may reconsider my position of bringing it to my table

Feb 25, 2019 at 16:08 | comment | added | SaggingRufus | I am trying to stop full conversations about what to do next in combat. In previous games I have run, the players spend quite a bit of time conversing about what to do next and talking about scenarios what could happen until eventually, they find the highest combination of skill they can put together. The example maybe wasn't the best. I was just trying to highlight that during combat there will be teaching of new players that could evolve into meta-gaming. I am hoping that by mixing up initiative, they can still talk about it, without having a sure plan that will 100% after the conversation
Feb 25, 2019 at 16:01 | comment | added | PJRZ | I'm not entirely convinced your current example is really an example of meta-gaming. (Sounds perfectly reasonable for one character to see another hesitate and, from an 'in-universe' perspective, shout "Get that goblin! You flank left!" before charging forward himself).
Feb 25, 2019 at 15:58 | comment | added | Gandalfmeansme | Could you clarify what kind of actions you consider "meta-gaming about initiative"? I understand what you're proposing, but I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to stop.
