The fan-made prestige class scarlet squirrel, runner-up in Wizards of the Coast's 2001 online Prestige Class Contest, possesses(see also this question) at level 3 gains the natural ability weresquirrel that, in part, says, "The character can polymorph into any known squirrel form recognized by the DM, in the same manner as a druid's" supernatural ability wild shapewild shape.
InWhile updating this prestige class for possible use in a Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 campaign, I was struck by the dearth of official possible squirrel forms.
First, have I overlooked any official squirrels or squirrel-adjacent creatures?
Second, asAs the DM, I'd like to recognize more squirrels. To that end, in first party, licensed, and third-party products what other squirrels exist? That is, what creatures have the actual word squirrel in their names?
Further, in first party, licensed, and third-party products, what other squirrel-adjacent creatures exist? That is, what creatures are described as being somehow squirrel-like, either because they are or are believed to? To be descended fromclear, offshoots oflike the above examples illustrate, or otherwise somehow related to squirrels or because theyI'm interested only in creatures that are described as being likespecifically squirrel-like. For instance, even a chipmunklike [sic] creature isn't squirrel in appearance or behavior?enough, so if a creature's description (This last—behaviordoesn't—is mention squirrels—even if such a lastcreature seems like it should be squirrel-ditch criterion that's included only to allow an answer to expand the question's mandateadjacent and even if such a creature does have a supercute name like the previous criteria result in slim pickings.berrygobbler (Silver Marches 41)—, it just won't do.
As the prestige class scarlet squirrel is a 9-level class, there's no need to go beyond squirrelan emphasis on squirrels and squirrel-adjacent creatures of greaterthat possess no more than 9 Hit Dice and, for my purposes, a focus on 7 Hit Dice and below is preferred, but I don't want to artificially restrain the squirrel expert. The prestige classes legacy champion and uncanny trickster are a thing, and if some third-party source includes, like, a 25-Hit Dice squirrel kaiju, Squirrelzilla's inclusion in an answer certainly wouldn't be frowned upon.
To be clearFinally, I'm not interested inI don't need the myriad of ways that a DM can modify squirrels with, for instance, templates or spells—I already know that such options exist and that I can use them. Instead, I'm looking only for standalone new creatures. Also, for my own reasons, I'd rather not use Pathfinder material, but, again, I want to accommodate thesquirrels and squirrel expert, so if there's a perfect Pathfinder creature, this asker won't reject that answer out of hand-adjacent creatures.
