Timeline for Long rests can be interrupted for up to 1 hour without having to restart the rest; is this limit per-rest or per-interruption?

Jul 27, 2023 at 3:23 | comment | added | pyrocrasty | @KilrathiSly: also, you've got the logical structure of the statement quite confused. It says... IF [more than 1 hr strenuous activity] THEN [long rest is lost]. If a second interruption automatically failed to qualify as you claim, it would mean the long rest is not lost.
Jul 27, 2023 at 3:19 | comment | added | pyrocrasty | @KilrathiSly: the statement applies whenever an interruption occurs. It doesn't matter whether or not there have been previous ones. If the long rest is interrupted by >1hr of walking/fighting/etc, then it is lost.

May 7, 2019 at 11:43 | comment | added | Akixkisu | They can have any number of interruptions that is not individually longer than an hour, the rest total, for example, could amount to 13 hours because the group is followed by enemies and has to relocate several times, they still have to manage 6 hours sleep and 2 hours of light activity or rest.
May 7, 2019 at 11:13 | comment | added | SeriousBri | I really can't parse this to get a real answer beyond your headline. Are you saying they can have any number or interruptions as long as they still manage 6 hours sleep and 2 hours rest? So the long rest would become 9+ hours?

May 6, 2019 at 15:42 | comment | added | Akixkisu | @NautArch There is the possibility for an infinite amount of interruptions. As you only gain the benefit of rest at the end of the rest, it may happen that you will die due to the passage of time before you gain the benefits for the first time.
May 6, 2019 at 15:25 | comment | added | NotArch | I'm confused because your lead implies that you can take as many as you want, but your answer does contain that you need at least 6 to complete the long rest.
May 6, 2019 at 15:18 | comment | added | NotArch | Are you saying there can be an infinite number of rests no matter what? Or do you still have the requirement for 6 hours of sleep to pass?

Answered follow-up question.

May 6, 2019 at 13:57 | comment | added | Mark Wells | Under this reading of the rules, how much actual resting has to happen? Can you run a marathon, stopping to rest every 55 minutes, and treat it as a "long rest" because you didn't have any periods of strenuous activity longer than an hour?
