It's usually the control-type ones, who do not trust the GM to judge what is interesting and relevant. Some other players may enjoy useless information to have some in-depth background. If presented correctly an accord on e.g. "How the triads (don't) fulfill certain cliches." (think of "restaurant's backroom") might help them with immersion. I had one player who usually lacked engagement totally go out of his usual way, when he was able to ask me (non-relevant) details on a cryptography puzzle.
